me photographying!
You can see me in the headstone taking a photo!

What a disappointment on this sunny morning last September 2009 when I arrived at the Jewish cemetery Kraslava.
The gate was padlocked.

I started to take pictures through the gates and most of them by telephoto.

I thought there was a solution and I toured the cemetery, I discovered a gap through which I passed but I found myself in a gloomy wood, no trails, many stones and I can not hide that  I was scared.

I quickly turned around and was ready to leave when I met people who told me they had the mayor of the town has certainly the key.
Here I am therefore confident the town hall party.
They were rather surprised, asked me lots of questions to know why I wanted to photograph the headstones, if I had ancestors buried in this cemetery ... etc.
They even called a Jew from Kraslava, who lives in Germany now. I talked with him, said, that friends of mine have ancestors buried there and they came to open the door, which was not an easy task because the lock was rusty.

The cemetery is huge and the edge of the Daugava River in a beautiful location but most of the graves are in the forest.

All the graves are grouped at the entrance.
I have not photographed the most ancient tombs as unreadable and in the forest.
